Slideshows tell the story so much better than pictures alone. Here are my newest two slideshows.
In the last three years I have been studying photography and lighting. With the help of several professional photographers that post what they know online, I have developed the understanding of light and the technical skills to produce some great pictures. Some of the photographers I follow are:
Jasmin Star - Jasmin-Star.com
David Hobby – Strobist.com
Chase Jarvis – ChaseJarvis.com
Zack Arias – Zarias.com
I was trying to think about what kind of pictures I like to take and it got me thinking. Do I have a style? Can people look at a picture and say, "I bet Andrew took that"?
I tend to try to make things look epic. Not dreamy, not blown out, not contrasty or moody, but epic. Colourful, vivid, sharp, and epic. Without any help, cameras can only capture a portion of what our eyes can see; they can only see a certain range of colours and a certain range of contrast. In order to capture a picture that is closer to what your eye would see, camera's need a bit of help. Sometimes all the camera needs is an attachment for the lens or a reflector; other times, some added flash does the trick. The key to my style is that I want to do almost everything in-camera. I don't want to be the kind of photographer that spends most of his time photoshoping pictures to get a finished product that is closer to what I wanted to take; I want to take that picture in the first place...without the need for photoshop.
